Alamo Raises $3,423.66!
[3.14.2008]Alamo students raised over $3,000 in their "Pennies for Patients" fundraising drive to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. (See related story below.) Not only did the students bring their pennies and other coins to school each day, they practiced their math skills by counting and rolling them as well!
Mrs. Barragan, Alamo's Fine Arts teacher, has agreed to dye her hair pink as a reward to the students for all their compassion and hard work! See her picture to the right.
Alamo Inducted Into Hall of Fame
[9.3.2008]Alamo Elementary has been inducted as a founding member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s LifeSaver’s Club, an elite club of high achieving fundraising schools. Alamo raised more than $2000 and was one of the top fundraising schools in Central Texas. The success of Alamo’s campaign was instrumental in raising over $200,000 to find cures for cancer and aid patients and their families.
None of Alamo’s success would be possible without the initiative, hard work, and thoughtfulness of coordinators like music and art teacher Collette Barragan. Her desire to teach children about the importance of helping others has given Alamo students an invaluable lesson on how they can make a difference.
Saving lives is not easy, and that is why the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society rewards coordinators and principals who go above and beyond to help fight blood cancers. Member benefits of the LifeSaver’s Club include recognition of Alamo Elementary on the School & Youth website and in the Penny Times newsletter. They also receive exclusive LifeSaver merchandise, such as a custom tote bag and t-shirts.
