Fort Stockton Volleyball opens up district play at home

Fort Stockton, Texas (Sept. 23, 2023) -- In the first district contest of the season, Fort Stockton's Volleyball program hosted the Greenwood Rangerettes. The Prowlers competed in a freshman, junior varsity and varsity contest.

The varsity team competed well against their district competition, but were unsuccessful in securing a victory. Scores for the game include 25-21, 22-25, 14-25 and 18-25. With a senior heavy squad this season, it is no surprise that the seniors were the statistical leaders in the loss. Aryanna Gonzalez commanded the defense and recorded 25 digs. Ivanna Ortiz recorded 24 digs and added 10 kills. Alyssa Rangel quarterbacked her offense and tallied 16 assists. Lastly, Amaya Urias recorded eight kills and three blocks.

"It is always tough to lose, but I am proud of the way the girls are fighting," Head Coach Jessica Tully-Mitchell said. "We need to execute sooner, so we can put teams away and limit our sets. We will head back to practice and work on our weaknesses, so we can be better prepared for our upcoming district contests."

Fort Stockton's sub-varsity squads were unsuccessful in securing a victory. The junior varsity team fell to Greenwood in two sets, while the freshman squad fell to the Rangerettes in a tough fought three sets.

The Prowlers will now look ahead to Tuesday, Sept. 26. Pecos' Lady Eagle Volleyball team will head to the SEC for a district contest against the Prowlers.

District standings are as follows: Greenwood 1-0, Monahans 1-0, Pecos 1-0, Fort Stockton 0-1, Seminole 0-1 and Andrews 0-1.
