Prowler Volleyball travels to Odessa High for non-district games

Odessa, Texas (Aug. 29, 2023)-- Fort Stockton's Volleyball program traveled to Odessa to take on the Odessa High School Lady Bronchos. The freshmen, junior varsity and varsity each competed in their respective games.

The varsity squad took the Lady Bronchos to four sets. It was a hard-fought battle, but the Prowlers were unsuccessful in securing a win. The score for the game is as follows: 20-25, 25-23, 15-25, and 24-26.

Although the Prowlers did not come away with the win, they are showing great promise. The team's hustle is something Prowler fans need to come out to see. "Team Never Quit" and "Why not us?" are slogans that the team are basing their season around.

Senior Aryanna Gonzalez defended the court for her teammates and played tremendous defense. Senior Amaya Urias was big on the front line with key blocks that helped shift the momentum of the sets in favor of the Prowlers. Senior Alyssa Rangel, Senior Sophia Hernandez and Junior Kriselda Porras came up huge from the service line, cashing in a few aces between the trio.

The Prowlers are on a tough schedule for the next few games, but the tough schedule is something that Head Coach Jessica Tully-Mitchell says will get the Prowlers ready for their upcoming district games. "I am glad that we have a tough schedule leading up to district," Tully-Mitchell stated. "The tough schedule will help us to prepare for district play and hopefully give us an edge on our competition."

The junior varsity fought relentlessly and took the Lady Bronchos to three sets, but they were unable to secure a victory. In straight sets, the freshman squad was able to put the Lady Bronchos away and earn another win on the season.

Up next for the Prowler teams is a trip to Permian High School. Games for the Permian match up are set for 5 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 6 p.m. Please note that Varsity is set to compete at 5 p.m.
