Varsity tennis had weather on their side and allowing them to play. With an unconventional lineup, due to dual sport athletes, your Panther Tennis team was allowed to enter 3 girls singles into a usual two entry spring season and let’s just say it was a Panther sweep. Athena Gomez, a common name and finalist in the doubles division, led the charge in singles beating out two teammates to win gold and looking like she never skipped a beat from her undefeated district team tennis singles season. Coming in at second, was a usual name in the singles division, Jaslene Tijerina. Tijerina, faced off against Gomez in the finals and fell short in the 3rd set super tie breaker. Coming in 3rd place to complete the sweep, a new face to the singles division, but definitely showing she is no one to count out is sophomore Adison Fowler. Fowler fell short to Gomez in the semis in a tight 3rd set super as well, setting up a 3rd Place match against Brownfields top girls singles. Fowler bested Brownfield in straight sets, giving the Panther Tennis team a Gold, Silver and Bronze medal in girls singles. Other medalist include our top boys doubles team, Xander Gomez and Jeremiah Shuttleworth who won the consolation side in a Panther Tennis team showdown where they bested fellow teammates of Jayden Jarboe and Aric Palacios.

Panther Tennis looks to continue next week at Bush Tennis Center with host Midland Legacy. JV tennis will take action on Tuesday, while varsity will take the courts on Thursday.
