This past weekend the Fort Stockton cross country teams continued their drive to the district championship by competing in the Tall City Invitational in Midland, Texas. This is one of the biggest meets not only in the Permian Basin but in the state of Texas as well. Ali Jackson finished fourth in the Division 1 5K with a time of 20:25.53. Eight of the top ten finishers were from Midland Legacy. Summer Hinojos placed twenty-fifth with a time of 22:55.70. Other Prowler finishers were freshmen Ingrid Aguilar who finished thirty seventh with a time of 24:33.05. Paulina Hernandez finished fifty sixth with a time of 26:34.72. Overall the Prowlers ran well against bigger schools with more runners. In the Division 2 girls two mile race there  were 180 total runners including varsity teams from smaller schools such as Grady, Buena Vista and Sands to name a few. Madi Castro finished ninety ninth with a time of 17;12.69. Karen Villanueva finished with a time of 21:25.98. The Division 1 boys 5K had a total of 77 runners and Khalil Jackson, Jose Aguilar and Diego Ronquillo demonstrated their panther fight with respectable times. Diego Ronquillo ran a 20:08.02 three mile race while Jose Aguilar came in with a time of 21:19.53 and Khalil Jackson finished the race with a 22:23.84 time. the division 2 boys race had a lone panther, Derik Waight competing against 219 other runners. Derik finished the race with a time of 26:37.07. This was also the first week for the junior cross country runners to participate in a meet in which they run two miles. Julian Vasquez and Angel Marquez were the two panther runners. Julian finished the race with a time of 16:42.51 and Angel posted a time of 16:53.61. The junior high prowlers ran against 210 other runners from various schools. Bradalay Jimenez finished eighty ninth with a time of 18:30.34 for the top girl finisher for Fort Stockton. Other prowlers included Isabella Bolivar with a time of 22:04.17, Alisha Padilla with a 25:19.52 and Serenitdad Vasquez at 32:19.56. I am proud of how our athletes demonstrated that Team Never Quit attitude against some difficult teams and temperatures. Our young athletes took a big step in understanding what it takes to compete at a high level and not just settle for average. The Cross Country team will be back in action on Saturday, September 2nd at the Crane meet. The team would love to have more support as they continue pursuing the district title.
